- dvacátý = the twentieth; dvacátého května = on the twentieth of May or on May the twentieth
- dvacet = twenty; bylo nás dvacet = there were twenty in all (there were twenty of us, we were twenty in all)
comes from dva deset which literall means "two ten". Became corrupted over the years to dvacet.
Numbers between 20 and 30 are formed just like in English: by simply adding numbers from on to nine. So 21 will be dvacet jedna and, analogically, 25 is dvacet pět. Under the influence of German, Czech can also form these numbers the other way round, for example, jedenadvacet - 21, pětadvacet - 25, or devětadvacet - 29. These can be heard more often in colloquial speech.
The ordinal number is dvacátý - the 20th The neuter gender is dvacáté as in dvacáté století, the 20th centry.
The 21st century is jedenadvacáté století, a more common version than dvacáté první století
A 20 crown piece is dvacetikoruna, also known dvacka or even dvaciáš. The figure 20 is dvacítka which can also refer to a tram number 20 or a woman in her 20s. A twenty something year old man would be dvacátník.
